EXAMPLESFrequently Asked Questions
FAQWhat is a UUID?
UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) is a 128-bit number used to identify information in computer systems. The probability of duplicate UUIDs is extremely low.
What's the difference between UUID v1 and v4?
UUID v1 is time-based and uses MAC address + timestamp. UUID v4 is random and uses 122 random bits. v4 is generally recommended as it doesn't expose MAC addresses.
Are generated UUIDs truly unique?
While mathematically possible to have duplicates, the probability is astronomically low (about 1 in 2.71 quintillion for v4). For practical purposes, they are considered unique.
Can I use these UUIDs in production?
Yes, this tool generates standard-compliant UUIDs that can be used in any application. All generation happens locally in your browser.
What's the length of a UUID?
Standard UUIDs are 36 characters with hyphens (32 hex digits + 4 hyphens). Without hyphens, they're 32 characters.
Is my data stored or transmitted?
No, all UUID generation happens locally in your browser. We don't store or transmit any data.
